Drowning: The feeling of despair, depression, nothing is going right and you can’t keep up (source: urban dictionary)
Owning: To win, triumph over, possess (source: urban dictionary)

Let’s say you’ve been thrown into the ocean. You have the following options: either swim or drown. You choose to start swimming; you do so for a while, you get tired. Now you are presented with two choices: to either panic and end up moving really fast or to relax. If you decide to begin panicking you’ll eventually become exhausted and drown. But if you give in and let go the floating will cause your body to rise to the surface, this will give you a few minutes to rest and be able to keep swimming.

See how I used the words “options”, “choices”, “decide” etc. throughout the whole example?

Any ordeal you’ll face in your life, you are in control of how you will react to it, what you’ll do about it and what you’ll make out of it. No matter how hopeless or impossible something might seem to be, you always have a choice. You are in charge of whether you are the victim or the survivor. The one to come out of it stronger, braver and wiser. That doesn’t always require the maximum effort, sometimes you have to relax, let things be, see where life itself will lead you. You can also start jumping into conclusions and put yourself in the worst place possible.

I was there, I did that. I still do it to be completely honest with you. Once you realize it’s all a matter of the mindset you have, the game changes. It’s all up to you, your reactions, your feelings and your actions. Often in life, you don’t even need to say or do something about a situation, you just have to keep moving along, it will get better. Despite the issue, psychology is key to any and every thing, you attract what you can’t stop thinking about, so be extremely conscious of what and who you allow to take over your brain on a daily basis.

I won’t recommend being positive at all times as I, myself, know it’s pretty damn tough. I suggest that you stay calm in spite of the depth of the ocean you’ve been thrown into. Oh, and try mastering the art of NOT GIVING A FUCK.

Just keep swimming,

Dory, x.
