Home is a feeling.
Home isn't an inclosed space you own permanently or temporarily. It isn't a building made of concrete. It's not even your favorite place or location on planet earth.
Home is her perfume, not her cologne, her natural scent. The way you feel when you see her. The way your stomach turns when you get a text from her. And the way your heart skips a beat whenever she kisses your lips.
Home is everything she is and all the things you become because of her when she's around. Home is the feeling of ultimate safety when she puts her arms around you and you get lost in them, like the best kind of prison, one you never want to escape from. Home is when you get a glance of her smile and you realize you're the happiest human alive.
Home is who you want to be with after the longest day at work or the best day of your whole life. The one you want to share every moment with. The one you'd rather die than never get to touch again. The one you miss like hell. The one that helps you define the phrase 'home sick'.
Unlike your house, you don't get to choose your home. Life gives it to you, you might meet it out of the blue and know right away. Or in other cases, it may take a while before you realize that it has been there all along and you just couldn't see it.
One day you may become homeless, not the poor kind. The one where you have all the money in the world but feel like you own nothing, simply because you don't have her. You lost her once and for all. Hard as you might try you'll never find another home that feels just right, like she did. But if you're lucky enough you could find a brand new palace, one where you'll feel like a royal.
Home is her. She is your home. And if you're lucky enough you might get to be her home, too.
Athina, x.
